Wasuze otya! Greetings in Luganda. Luganda is a language widely spoken in Kampala, Uganda where I spent two weeks early in April. They love Congolese music and culture, and I love Maddox Ssematimba. I hope my Ugandan friends love this site too. But this note is about something else.
Alright! It has been more than 20 days since I last posted. That is too much time. My apologies to my readers.
Blogging is hard! This is definitely not an excuse and I should not have got into this if I wanted an easy hobby. I missed some important landmarks in Congolese music history. Papa Wemba passing anniversary was celebrated on April 24, and the website stayed quiet. Unacceptable. May 6 was Papa Lutumba Simaro’s burial, under heaving rain and thunders. Balancing time between family and work did not allow me time to share my passion with you. The site, therefore, stayed quiet once more, and I have to sincerely apologize for that.
Moving Forward
Rest assured that my passion for Congolese music remains high. I was recently riding with Congolese colleagues in a car in Kinshasa. I improvised a quiz around Congolese music for fun, and they failed at a simple first question. The answer was Sebene! More on that in future posts but back to the point: many things are taken for granted. Even Congolese are sometimes unaware of facts and beauties in their music and culture. This further strengthens my conviction. There’s a need for more documentation, archiving and explanations. Perhaps I should work on a quiz app for this site too!
Anyway, this was a short post to reassure you that I am not giving up. I will plan better so I can bring you more regular and interesting contents; stay tuned.
